Force Fins - The Newest of the New!

Force Fins are one of the newest and most innovative designs in scuba flippers. They are currently only manufactured by a company of the same name.

The design is said to replicate the shape and function of a fish tale. Each fin has a V-shaped cut into the center of the blade which channels the water more efficiently. Additionally, the edges of the fin turn upward or away from the bottom of the foot in order to provide increased resistance on the downward phase of the kick. During the recovery phase, the blade snaps back to assist with the movement.

This kind of flipper is made of polyurethane, which gives it a more flexible shape. The overall design and choice of material, is intended to utilize the body’s natural strength. The flipper concentrates the force of the fin further back on the foot, which in turn, makes the diver use the muscles in their entire leg, not just the lower leg.

In addition, many agree that the curves and flexibility in the flippers help to keep your legs properly oriented for more efficient power, even as you become fatigued.

PROS:

•Comfort. Due to the snap back of the blade as well as the flexibility of the polyurethane, these fins are said to be one of the more comfortable flipper styles.

•Efficient. The design is taken from nature and is said to be even more efficient than the split fins.

•Acceleration. If used correctly, you can pick-up speed very quickly.

CONS:

•Maneuverability. Many think that although they are very efficient, the flexibility in the blade does not provide the best maneuverability.

•Negative Buoyancy. It can take some getting used to when wearing them with neoprene boots. Because the fins are lightweight, they aren’t able to counter the positive buoyancy of the neoprene scuba boots, which can leave you with “floaty feet.” You must wear ankle weights to counteract this effect.

Given their durablity and unique design, force fins offer another fantastic choice for those searching for the perfect scuba flipper.
