Mares Scuba Fins

Mares’ motto is “Always the first,” which is definitely applicable when discussing Mares scuba fins. The first to produce a fin with two different materials, a water channeling system, the Optimal Pivot Blade (OPB) technology, and a buckle release system – Mares is widely recognized as an industry leader.

The Mares scuba fins available include:

Quattro Excel

The Quattro Excel is an open heel fin known for its power in all diving conditions. It is made of three materials for maximum performance. Additionally, it utilizes Super Channel thrust technology, as well as the OPB system for maximum efficiency.

Mares completed a lot of testing to improve on their already popular, Avanti Excel fin. Following these tests, the Quattro Excel was developed.

In addition Super Channel technology, which greatly increases the volume of water moving through the channel therefore delivering greater thrust, the Quattro Excel also has interior ribs in the foot pocket. These small ribs inside the pocket greatly improve fit, eliminate foot suction and prevent foot pocket flexing which transmits more power to the blade Quattro Excel.

Finally, like all Mares scuba fins, the Quattro Excel has the ABS (Adjustable Binding System) feature for quick and easy opening or closing.

Avanti Quattro

According to Mares, the Avanti Quattro fin set the standard for which all fins are measured.

The Avanti Quattros utilize rubberized side ribs which improve elasticity and protect the blade from cuts and abrasions. They also feature blade stabilizers to improve stability and eliminate ankle-twisting.

Like the Quattro Excel, the Avantis have the anatomic foot pocket which improves fit, eliminates foot suction and prevents foot pocket flexing. The fin also have the ABS straps.

Volo

Volo Power/ Volo Race

Both the Volo Power and Volo Race are lightweight fins known for being easy and efficient. The Volo Power is an open heel model, while the Volo Race is a full foot fin.

The Volo utilizes the OPB system for greater efficiency as well as the Channel thrust technology. The combination of both makes this model of fin perfect for divers who want to increase their efficiency with ease.

Like the Quattro Excel and the Avanti Quattro, the Volo also utilizes the anatomic foot pockets in order to improve fit, eliminate suction and prevent pocket flexing. The Volo Power also has the ABS strap system.

Avanti Superchannel

Open Heel/Full Foot
The Avanti Superchannel has a Three-Channel “Superchannel” blade, which is designed for the diver who wants the perfect blend of power and efficiency. The new blade design has one superchannel in the center and two lateral channels on the side, allowing the diver to maintain high efficiency while reducing fatigue.

The fin has upper and lower stabilizers that transfer energy from the pocket to the blade. Like the other Mares scuba fins, the Avanti Superchannel Open Heel also has the ABS straps feature.

Plana Avanti

The Plana Avanti offers good thrust in an economical fin. The Planas have a three-channel blade, anatomical foot pockets and the ABS strap system. Additionally, they are known for their durable construction and reliability. Overall, the Plana Avanti is perfect for the diver who would like a great fin at a decent price.

Avanti Tre

The Avanti Tre is similar to the Plana Avanti except that it is a full foot fin. It too provides good thrust at an economical price. In addition to the three-channel blade and rugged, durable construction, the Avanti Tre also has an orthopedic foot pocket which is great for those long dives or snorkels.

Avanti Excel The Avanti Excel is Mares’ improved full foot fin. It utilizes the Super Channel Thrust technology, making it possible to channel the water and optimize thrust in comparison to similar fins. The “whale fin” section in the foot pocket allows for greater transmission of power, with improved sensitivity when finning. The overall advantage is greater thrust with the same effort.
