Scuba Flippers - How to Choose the Right Design!

Selecting one design out of the many different styles of scuba flippers will most likely be your most difficult task when it comes to fins.

Do you go with the ones that are plain, or have grooves, or with splits, or that are long, or short… ugh! I know how you feel.

There are an abundant number of choices when it comes to picking diving gear – and especially when it comes to choosing the right flipper. Additionally, the catalog of fins grows every year as manufacturers continue to make advances in technology in an effort to create the most efficient and resilient flipper.

For some people, including myself, the most popular design is still the original flipper. Many divers are turned-off by the upgraded technical features on the newer designs and tend to stick with the basic paddle fin. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad choice. Above all, the one thing you must consider when choosing a pair of fins is comfort. It will be impossible to use the trendy designs of flippers if they are uncomfortable or difficult to maneuver. And, even though the modified channels and new split fins can help give you better kicking efficiency, they will only be successful at what they say they can do if you are comfortable wearing them.

To make it even tougher, merely choosing a design is only the first step when purchasing a pair of fins. There are many additional styles within each design that promise to deliver additional benefits.

One of the best ways to limit your options when deciding on a pair of flippers, is to give yourself a range for your budget. You can spend a lot or a little and still find scuba fins that will meet your needs.
